Unexpected Passion

I first took Intro to DMA to fulfill my technology credit. It seemed more interesting than typing on a computer or doing anything code related so I figured it was my only option. I would never have guessed how much I would fall in love with it. If it wasn't for DMA I would never have realized how much I love photography and editing and designing. While I am not doing anything artistic as a major I have found hobbies that will last me a lifetime. I hope DMA brings other people just as much joy as it brought me if not more. Exploring my concentration and using my sketchbook to find out who I am as an artist as helped me develop my identity and I could not be more grateful. https://galatiaphotography.wixsite.com/website

Toy Story 4

Toy Story 4                                          This summer, the fourth(and potentially last) installment of the Toy Story franchise is coming out. Pixar, the branch of Disney that has created all of the Toy Story movies, has said that after this movie they want to focus on more original movies. The animation in this movie looks incredible and very detailed/realistic. I am really exited to see it!

Goodbye DMA

Goodbye DMA This school year has gone by so fast, it seems like yesterday I was working on making circles in intro. I have expressed my creativity to the fullest in some of the works of art I created this year and I'm really proud of almost all of them. I want to continue my passion for music but learning graphic design is a really important skill that I think everyone should learn. My favorite piece I've done this year is my double exposure piece, it was one of my first pieces in this class and it was a fun experience creating it. I'm going to miss this class and all the useful skills I've taken from it. I want to thank Mrs.Shields and Mrs.Barnes for helping me out every step of the way.

Farewell, DMA

I'm sitting here at nine in the morning listening to Mrs.Shields music, sitting in Mrs.Shields class for the last time. I've spent two hour of my day, everyday for the last school year sitting in front of this computer. This is the place I cried, I laughed, I laughed so hard that I cried. I lived, and whether this is lost in a month, or a year, I was here. I typed these words, I made this art, and in this moment I am here. This class is the place where I felt most comfortable. It was my safety net, but I'm ready to let it go. There comes a time in every life when you have to let what was be, and move forward. Goodbyes aren't always sad, and this is how I want to leave. This class made me happy, and it's my hope that this energy lives on in this post.  Thank you to everyone who followed me on my journey! IT Chapter 2

The It: Chapter 2 trailer just came out. It is going to be the end of the two part series IT. Chapter 2 shows the kids from the first one all grown up and together again. From the trailer it looks like this movie is going to be just as creepy as the first one.

APDMA Class of 2019

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to send out the web links to the portfolios of the 14 AP DMA Seniors that will be graduating in a few short days.  If you have a minute, take a look at the wonderful work they have created during their time in high school.  These talented students are looking for internships, commissions, networking, and job opportunities that will help them achieve their future career goals.  If you like their work, please contact them directly for your photography, illustration, design, animation, video and film-making needs!  Please forward their portfolios to anyone you know who might be interested in their work. Farewell, DMA

I have always wanted to make films. There was never a question. So it was a surprise to me when I was walking the halls as a freshman and I saw a bunch of upperclassmen with DSLRs in their hands. I was jealous but also determined to found out how I could spend my time making videos instead of geometry. That is when I finally put it together that DMA stood for Digital Media Arts.  Before taking this class I would never have thought of myself as an artist. Especially not after my clay frog exploded in the kiln in the 6th grade. It wasn't until I found myself seated in Mrs. Barnes' 5th bell Intro to DMA class that I began to spark towards creativity in the digital realm. It was where I learned how to use Photoshop. My favorite project that I made was a La La Land poster. It wasn't until I was showing a friend that I had realized that I had misspelled the word film on the final design. Flim. I do not know how it was possible for me to misspell a four-letter word, but I did

Old Game Animations

Recently I picked up a collectors edition of Final Fantasy VII for the PS1 up at the store and it really does put in perspective how far we've come and how fast. The game came out 1997 and how primitive the animations in game as well as in the cgi cutscenes looks in really interesting. You can tell the characters are more like action figures in that they can only be moved at specific joints under certain conditions. Anyways the game is incredible and how the game overcomes such a load of luggage as graphics and animation to crawl its way to the top of RPGs is really cool.

Farewell, DMA

It's been a wild few years I must say. I remember taking Intro to DMA my sophomore year, and really enjoying the class. At one point that semester, Mrs. Shields handed me an envelope with a note saying I should try DMA 1, and so I did. The class was crazy, but fun. I enjoyed it enough to want to do more, and so I did. Here I am in APDMA, typing my farewell blog post. Getting to be apart of this class was a great experience. I made friends, learned new things, did some cool things, went to some cool places. I got the chance to show off my creativity and express myself. I got the opportunity to try something that I wanted to do for a long time, which was astrophotography. I got to make my own animations, which one of them won a Gold Key Award from Golden Lions and a Mountain Lion Award from the Golden Lions awards. It was a pleasure to be in this class, and I'm sad I'm gonna have to say goodbye. So anyway, I guess this is goodbye. Enjoy my animation, it's by far my

Sincerely, Avneet

Farewell With 10 days left until graduation, I'm sad to say goodbye to a class that has taught me more than I ever imagined as a wee little freshman in intro. I can remember some of my earlier projects; making the Taj Mahal in Photoshop out of cauliflower, popcorn, and any white food I could find (there are not that many), compiling images of all of my interests and masking each one, animating my name, recreating an album cover of Maren Morris, and retouching an old picture of my grandparents. After a whole year of waiting, I debated taking DMA 1 because it was a double block and I also wanted to continue Spanish. I chose DMA 1 and was so grateful for my decision. My class was small and we grew close through learning each new program and skill. Our independence grew in this class and we were able to make our own artistic choices. I love photography and was able to expand upon that in our lens exploration project. The lenses and resources available at school gave me insight into t

Avengers Endgame

I saw the new Avengers movie this weekend and it was a great culmination of 11 years worth of film and story. The movie was a great final installment, I think the directors of this film and Infinity War deserve all the credit in the world for making some of the best marvel movies in the franchise.
Detective Pikachu is coming out soon and this is one of the characters.  I like how they made this movie based off the games kind of but made the characters realistic instead of all cartoon-ish. The figures look very creepy but also very realistic.

HDR Photography

We started HDR Photgraphy today and its really cool how it uses multiple pictures with different focus points in order to make one photo that's really epic.

Spider-Man Far From Home

The sequel to Spider-man Homecoming is coming out this July. It's called Spider-Man Far From Home. It looks like it's gonna have a lot of villains, including Mysterio and Hydro Man. The special effects for this movie look insane, just like most Marvel movies. This picture shows Hydro man and the water effects look really cool.

Farewell, DMA

Fair warning: this is going to be long. I'm using this final blog post to take time to reflect on my two and a half years in the DMA program. I'll start off with a little background on me as an artist. Growing up, I could always color well inside the lines, but I couldn't draw if my life depended on it. At age 10 I received my very first point-and-shoot camera, a chunky silver Canon Powershot A430. I remember immediately going outside and pointing it directly at the sun because I wanted to see the pretty lens flares. My mom came out with me and told me that it's bad for the sensor to be pointed directly at the sun. That was my very first "lesson" in photography, everything from then on out was mostly trial and error. I then graduated to a nicer, more compact point-and-shoot, the Canon Powershot SX280, but I ended up mostly borrowing my mom's Nikon DSLR. Junior year I started to get pretty serious about my photography, and invested in what is now my prized

Game of Thrones

I am currently watching Game of Thrones. This show has one of the best screenplays of any show I have ever watched. It is intricate, yet very captivating. Along with the great story line is great art direction. The cinematography in the show is done by Fabian Wagner. One scene that stands out to me for being particularly strong is in a battle scene between Jon Snow and an opposing army. I really enjoy the balance of the composition. Overall, this show is the perfect mixture of being both artful made and plot driven. Also, I am only on Season 6 so please no spoilers ever.

MattDotGarcia

- Matt Garcia is an American photographer from California. His pieces mainly consist of portraits of young woman he meets around the world. However Garcia implements the use of certain editing techniques to make them look as though they're in another world. His photos are very vibrant and always have a theme or story to tell. In some piece he also creates a fairy tale vibe with some Photoshop techniques.

A Haunting of Hill House

While I was writing my critique for this show I noticed that the posters and the scenes were very eerie. The photographers and filmers of this show really edited  it to look very scary and dark. They gave the show a tone that makes it really feel scary but also they don't over do it like a lot of scary movies. In the poster for the show they symbolize that the house is part of each of the family members by using it as her face. I think this was very smart and it foreshadows the plot. Overall they did a very good job with setting a mood throughout the show.
I saw this picture for the new Spider-Man movie and thought how cool it looks. The movie industry has really grown!

The Met Gala

Once a year, New York has its biggest fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute. Each years event celebrates the theme of that years Costume Institute exhibition. The exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night, since guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. The met gala used to be attended by the luxurious, upper-class of New York City- now it is attended by mostly celebrity oriented attendees. This year the theme of the met was Camp: Notes on Fashion . Most celebrities achieve this look by dressing very extravagant and elegant, almost trying to dress as art. Celebrities will walk down the famous red carpet, then celebrate as they raise money for the museum. Here are a few looks from last nights. Met Gala 2019:

Farewell DMA

As the end of senior year approaches, I want to reflect on my time spent in DMA. Digital Media Arts has truly become my outlet for creativity over the last few years. I have learned so much about myself through my art. It has grown so much since freshman year, when I took Intro, barely knowing how to use Photoshop.  DMA has allowed for a number of opportunities throughout high school, including getting to attend BPA Nationals in Anaheim, California and placing among the top ten in the nation with my teammates, having my artwork displayed at the Taft Museum, Art Academy of Cincinnati, and the senior art show, and having the opportunity to earn many awards. In DMA, I have learned important skills that are vital in my future, made new friendships, and came to terms with my creativity. For those of you entering APDMA, I wanted to take a second and give you some advice.  DMA is what you make of it. Allow yourself to have fun being creative. As you begin to make pieces, you will find that

Farewell DMA

Thank you Digital Media Arts for 3 great years. Thank you for inspiring me, improving my artistic abilities, allowing my creativity to thrive, and helping me get one step closer to my future as an artist. Throughout high school I have quickly fallen in love with art. Sophomore year it was strictly painting, but because of AP Drawing, DMA 1 and AP DMA, my love has developed immensely. Next year I will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the school of Design, Art, Architecture and Design (DAAP). There I will be majoring in Communication Design where I will be able to take many different paths including motion design, interactive design or graphic design.           I would like to encourage anyone with an interest in art to pursue it. Practice as much as you can and learn as much as you can. Watch other artists on Youtube or watch some of your peers. Always ask questions and always try new things. Don't be afraid to take risks, after all, there are no rules w

Farewell DMA

Its been a long run, a lot of relationships made, a lot of friends came and went. I did not realize how fast the end was coming. The end comes a lot quicker than you ever think it would. Watching everyone grow up and move on with their lives is a very emotional experience. The sun comes out after the storm, so just remember no matter what your decisions are there is always a happier side to everything. There is always a goodbye after every hello, there is always a rainbow after the rain clouds clear. Just remember to hold the ones you love dear, and be there for them. The hardest part of High School was maintaining a social life, a job, keeping up with school work, and always being someone people know they can fall back on. Its hard work to be a good person but it's even harder to put all of yourself into something for so long. I have learned a few life lessons that I want to pass down to everyone. One is don't always blame yourself for things you have no control over.  Another

Farewell DMA, and Farewell KHS

Dear readers, My last year at Kings High School has been full of many happy moments. From my time spent with Mrs. Shields taking AP DMA, I've learned and progressed tremendously in terms of my digital art, photography, and appreciation for other artists and pieces. I've won awards, attended BPA's National Leadership Conference in California (having placed Top 10 in the nation with my teammates!), and gotten to display my work at the Senior Art Show and ARC Exhibition/Taft Museum down in Cincinnati for others to see. It's been a wild ride, truly. And needless to say, I've loved every second of it. As the rest of my class and I get ready to graduate in less than two weeks, I wanted to give some words of wisdom to those taking AP DMA next year and those who may be hesitant to pursue art: Take every moment of your high school career in strides. There will be setbacks, times of creative block, times where nothing you make seems worthy to be viewed - this is normal.
