Farewell DMA

Farewell Kings High School, and farewell DMA. As I look back at the last 4 years I am so glad that I decided to be a part of the DMA program. It has taught me many lessons and has given me many experiences that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Taking AP DMA has strengthened my skills as an artist, but more importantly has strengthened my confidence as an artist. The DMA program as a whole has taught me to never give up on pursuing your dreams, this course has the potential to show what can come from an eager mind and a strive to create. Next year I will be attending the DAAP program at the University of Cincinnati to study Industrial Design, a perfect mix of my love for art and my love for engineering.  See more of my work here: https://tmj0516.wixsite.com/jamiesonportfolio " Never settle for less than your dreams, somewhere, sometime, someday, somehow, you'll find them"

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Stephen

There is this wonderful musical artist I've discovered recently, named Stephen. He has a mainly techno-pop sound to his music, but I'd like to focus on the content of his videos. They range from a full story, and interestingly done cinematography, to confusing, and borderline creepy animation sequences. I think he is an amazing artist, and his work is meant to be shared. Here are some examples of his work: Crossfire: Stay, ft. Lindsey Cook:

Soulless Photography

This is definitely my favorite photography group. They are called Soulless Photography. They specialize in paintball photos and videos. Most of the photos they capture are of a person in motion. This adds excitement to every photo. The photos they take are raw which means that no editing is done to them. Soulless Photography grows the sport of paintball through their photos. They inspire me to take more pictures of paintball and to grow the sport. Show people how fun and competitive the sport of paintball is. More photos here: https://soullessphotography.pixieset.com/

Cinemagraphs

Inspiration for anyone planning on doing a cinemagraph in AP

@BoBridges

I recently went on a college visit to Miami University to tour their art program. During my visit, I got to meet a few professors in the art department. One of the professors I met is a photographer teacher at Miami and told me about this renown photographer that he had gotten the chance to meet. The photographer is Bo Bridges and I went to go look up his page on the internet.  Here are some of my favorite of his work and a link to his page. bobridges.com

Avengers Infinity War

This is the poster for the new Avengers movie.  I think its really cool how the artist is able to make the audience poop themselves before even seeing the movie.  It's also cool how the designers of this poster are meme lords and made Tony Stark t-pose on it.  I'm looking forward to viewing this master piece on Thursday with my good pal Sam (also in DMA).  I think it's cool how they make Thanos look so mean.  It reminds me of how Erin gets when we are messing around while she's trying to film our music video.  I see myself in the Hulk because sometimes I get really angry at Megan for making mean comments about my art and I start to turn green.  I also see myself in Tony Stark because I get a lot of women.  Gavin reminds me of the Winter Soldier because he is really moody and can be super mean or be your best friend.  Sarah reminds me of Drax because she never thinks before she says things and always resorts to throwing hands instead of talking things out.  Max remin

LAST BLOG FOR THE CULTURE

The Finale  It's been a good year folks. We've some good memories and some bad ones, but they won't amount to of fun that those good memories brought. First off, I'd like to take a moment and thank Meez. Burnz for being such a great teacher, mother, and mentor to myself. I've learned a lot about adulthood this year. I have made some bad decisions that affected my employability points, but i've learned from those mistakes because of Meez. Burnz. Second, I'd like to thank my classmates, especially my good ole pal Alux Mooshino. What a great guy he is. This year could not have been any better without him. We made some of the best memories and I took some really good pics of this beautiful man. Third, I would like to thank Meez. Shulds and her class for being such great people all the time.(especially anna-claire, love that girl) Lastly, I want to thank muz mathey for being a terrible sub, ,but a great person. She didn't really help all that much, b

Letterboxd: Your Life in Films

At the beginning of 2016, I found myself wanting to remember all the movies I had seen. In my notes, I started keeping track of when and what I watched. A few months later, I found the website Letterboxd ! It's a social media for people who love movies. You are able to rate, review and log the films you watch into a diary. There is also the ability to see what others are watching. I've gotten a lot of my friends to join the site so we can share opinions and thoughts on movies. It has helped me discover some of my favorite films. Since January of 2016, I've logged 385 movies. It really cool to look back at the movies I've seen because I can remember when and where I was when I saw them. You can follow me here: https://letterboxd.com/kevlew/

Oil Painting

I have always loved oil paintings. Especially either self portraits, or landscapes. I've tries doing a few in my own but they didn't turn out well at all.

Malin Fezehai

Recently I came across a travelling photographer named Malin Fezehai. She is a New York based photographer who travels mostly to places like Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. I love the way her photos capture natives life in a genuine way.  There is no sugar-coating in her photography. Malin has received several awards for her photography over the past several years. She was even named one of the 30 Emerging Photographers to watch in 2015. I will include a link to her portfolio below.  Portfolio Link

Mini Origami

I stumbled across an Instagram account called "white_onerice" and was immediately intrigued. The entire account is full of microscopic origami. Everything is cuter when it's mini, so enjoy these mini folded pieces of paper!

Recycled Art

These pieces and many more were created by Samuel Price and made completely out of hand-cut magazines. What I love about these pieces and concepts id that no two pieces will ever look the same. I would highly recommend some of the other pieces by this artist, which can be found here:  Recycled Art

Global Photography

Andy Biggs is a global photographer who spends most of his time on the African plains. I am truly inspired by his ability to not only capture these gorgeous images, but also his bravery as he ventures into dangerous scenarios for the sake of art. These aren't just pictures, they capture a story of a world many of us will never get to experience for ourselves.

Pressed Flowers

For part of my senior year AP DMA sketchbook, I plan on collecting various leaves, flowers, and plants to press them into my sketchbook. I'm doing this not only to show the beauty of a wilted flower, but I plan on labeling them with both their common name and scientific name to help me learn both. I'm really excited to be learning about these plants in an artistic way. Here's a photo of what I plan on doing:
I really like how this art shows this once flourish city in ruins after a deep winter storm and showing how it effected the people that lived there making them kinda ghoulish but I mostly choose this art because it shows my favorite game character.

Flower Eyes

I've been really interested in these types of pieces lately. The artists create pieces that incorperate flowers into the subjects face/head, and I feel that it gives a well needed twist to normal portraits.
These are some murals you can find around downtown cincinnati. I chose to pick these for my post because everytime i go downtown I am amazed by all the talent and hardwork that was definetly put into these. I really love how the food looks like its actually coming out of the building, it looks so realistic

Sofia Coppola's Color Palette

Sofia Coppola is my all-time favorite filmmaker, and I attribute a lot of this to her artistic style and aesthetic choices. I recently found this video breaking down how she uses colors and lighting in her films, and it explains that while her films are generally described as "pastel", they're really more subdued due to her use of natural lighting. A really interesting thing to take into consideration for any other filmmakers or photographers out there! You might be shocked at how effective the use of natural lighting can be. I think part of the reason this works for Sofia's films is because they already feel so dreamy, but with this natural light, it just draws the viewer into the story even more. Consider substituting fancy light setups for natural surroundings next time you wanna experiment with film or photography!

Wall art

I saw an incredible picture of wall art today. It blows my mind the incredible creation people can make with some inspiration and hard work

Underappreciated Disney Creations

Ever since I was younger I loved Disney movies, ever since I started taking this class I have started noticing the amount of effect that goes into each scene to make it smooth sailing. This video is so intriguing to me because I started appreciating the editing and animation side but my eyes have been opened to the drawing perspective of it. It takes so much talent and I think anyone that has these abilities should be more appreciated.

Shawn Wasabi

A while back I found a YouTube artist by the name of Shawn Wasabi He uses a custom  Midi Fighter 64 to make his music Please enjoy!
This is our silhouette art we've been working on in class. It has many cool designs and you can use all kinds of different texts for effects. I really like this because they're are so many options with this and you truly aren't limited.

Tame Impala Album Artwork

Tame Impala's album artwork always amazes me. I really like the colors they used on their albums. They also do a nice job keeping it simple yet interesting. Check them out below.

Random Gifs

Personally, I think short gifs are one of the best ways to improve your skill as an animator. They let you work on one small technique or focus at a time rather than throwing many things at you at once. I also find gifs simply fascinating to watch over and over again. Here are some of my favorite gifs that I have collected on my Pinterest board for inspiration.  P.S. I pronounce Gif like "Jif", the way it is supposed to be pronounced!

Finger Painting

We learned how to finger paint at a very young age, but did you know that finger painting is used as a main style of painting for many artists? I think finger painting is special because its such a fun way of painting, it i very childish and messy. Finger painting is usually used with bright colors so the art is very colorful and could be described as fun.

The Grateful Dead

The Grateful Dead  These are some pieces done by various artists creating fan art for 60's rock band 'The Grateful Dead' I really like the color scheme and styles used in these pieces, the use of patterns and 60's and 70's color schemes adds an interesting element to all of these pictures. These images are mostly used for promotion of tours and shows but have been passed on to be a staple in the 70's art realm.
