Sculptor and Printmaker, Frank Stella

I first stumbled upon American artist, Frank Stella, when browsing the internet. Immediately, his work caught my eye - as I'm sure it does for many. The colors, shapes, and illusions of movement through rhythm and pattern are intriguing, and even more so when one learns he is 82 years of age. Pieces like his were rare at the time period in which they were created - when art pieces were being interpreted to have various underlying meanings and, at the very least, identifiable subject matter. Observers of Stella's artwork were often wonderstruck at the intricate chaos and non-formality. Based in New York City, Stella opted to specialize in sculptor and printmaking at the beginning of his career. He excelled in both abstraction and [later] minimalism, finding pleasure in draining any external meaning or symbolism from his work. He is considered to be one of the most influential artists of a generation that moved past intricate expressionism. Unfortunately, because of his

The 1975's A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships

The 1975 just released their third album, A Brief Inquiry of Online Relationships,  and I have been really intrigued by the art they have been posting for the past few months in order to promote the album. I think the busyness of each picture conveys the band's idea of the modern world and the minds of the people who live in it. I also love the repetition of the words and letters as well as the contrast of the red font placed over neutral backgrounds, especially in the bottom right picture.
For months I was wondering what all the fuss about Hamilton was about, until I finally decided to listen to it, then I understood. Hamilton is a modern musical about the story of the founding father Alexander Hamilton, about his struggles and accomplishments, his part in the American Revolution, and his political battles. All composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Tickets on Broadway reach over $1000 and all go fast. So uh, my hope to see it live is gone. Shame.

How to draw lips

I watched this video on how to draw lips. I like this video because it shows the artist using a q-tip to blend the sides of the lips. I am really excited to try this technique and also experiment more to draw realistic human features

Scanography

Scanography I really liked this scanography piece because it captures the detail of the flower pedals. Scanography pieces are unique in the aspect that they take the background out and allow the viewer to focus on the subject. The black and yellow color combination allows for good contrast.

GEISHA SAMURAI

I love this piece, it makes me think of the Geisha we had done. It is a Geisha Samurai!! The horses face looks like a dragon that wants to eat people. It also looks like it has scales. Praise the Geisha Samurai!

Fallout 76

One thing I find very cool and interesting is the designs and art in video games. Fallout 76 is a new game that like others looks very good and has some amazing artwork. Here is an example: I love the detail and lighting to really be able to see what the atmosphere is like.

Dino Tomic Gunpowder Art

Dino Tomic is an artist I've followed for a long time.  He used gunpower to create art.  Often he draws one picture with the gunpowder and then lights it on fire to reveal another image.  This creates an awesome display.  Part of the appeal is that his first image is only visible for a short amount of time.  He focuses mainly on pop culture and has gotten a large following. Here is a link to a video about him.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHdfiVKBqpU

The Grinch

This is the album art for the soundtrack of the upcoming movie, The Grinch. I love the contrast in colors and the rough texture it has. I'm looking forward to the release of this movie.

Get Ready For A Lot Of Orange

RJ Pierce is a cartoon artist whose art has gained a lot of attention due to her tendency to use popular characters, such as Marvel heroes, and incorporate them into internet pop culture. I love the way she uses strong shapes and bold lines to draw all her cartoons. http://lousysharkbutt.tumblr.com/

Unhappily Ever After

Jeff Hong, an artist, has created a series that portrays what a disney character would face if it was in true reality in our everyday world. Mostly focusing on the fact that life is not always a dream fantasy as what kids think it is. The irony in the illustrations is what causes the sadness for our modern culture. Many of the characters that we watch, growing up as kids, are put in pictures making us realize that there are many problems in the real world that majority of us face. It is crazy that art can make you feel a type of sadness and that some are almost a little bit disturbing. Here are a few pieces that Jeff Hong did that really got to me...

Archillect

The twitter account "Archillect", is an account that I use all the time for inspiration. It uses an algorithm to find images and then upload them to their social media accounts. I recommend this account to anyone looking to make a mood board or find sources of inspiration.
I like this photo because it has really nice colors and is really smooth and its taken to where you can see lots of shapes in the mountains and in the clouds and everything.

Cup-O-Life

I just really like this image, I love the concept of it and think it's really interesting.

Richard Symonds

Richard Symonds is a self-taught artist who captures wildlife in incredible realistic portraits. Richard has a strong passion and commitment to giving back to his wildlife subjects and he donates a portion of his art sales. Richard creates beautiful hyper-realistic drawings and paintings but some of my favorite pieces are his white portraits on black paper. Below I attached the link to his website and a few of my favorite pieces of his.   http://www.richardsymonds.co.uk/

POND

Here are some pieces done by a band I really like called 'Pond', they took their style and did a comic book style piece and I really like the way it looks hand drawn and the vibrant colors.

Throne of Glass

The series "Throne of Glass" has been one of my personal favourites for the longest time. The author, Sarah J Maas just released the final book in the series, "Kingdom of Ash". I wanted to share this because her work is fantastic, and somehow Maas makes you care about each character, even if you hate them at the beginning. I love her eloquence when she writes, and the fact that the main character isn't always likable. The cover of her newest book is even better. I know the rasterisation isn't the best, but the contrast of the blue and gold is interesting. The artist used the "S" technique, instead of triangles to give it a certain flow it wouldn't have otherwise. I'm in love with this series, and I'm sad that this is the last book. I'm excited to get my copy of it soon!

Daemon X Machina

I'm looking forward to a lot of upcoming games on the Nintendo Switch, like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate . I don't see many people bring attention to this, but I'm also very excited for Daemon X Machina, which is a fast-paced mech action game.  The concept art from it looks amazing and it has a "future dystopian" feel to it.

Richard Bernabe

Richard Bernabe is an American wildlife and nature photographer. He's worked on assignment with National Geographic, CNN, Time, Audubon, and many more. His photographs are stellar, and his work is something I look up to, and aspire to achieve that quality of work as well. His website is www.richardbernabe.com if you'd like to check out more of his work.

Fragmented

So for my concentration I am working with fragmented portraits. I want to show that we never seen a person's entire story. Florian Nicolle is an artist who works with different techniques to work with different aspects of the face.
Here is a side-by-side video of the 'behind the scenes' of filming a scene for a movie. It shows how, in order to get it in one take, there were many moving parts, and it is very tedious work. It helps to illustrate just how much work goes into filming just one scene.

'Creed II' Official Trailer #2 (2018) | Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Sta...

This is a trailer for the new Creed  Movie Coming out next year. I thought the cinematography was really cool and really pertained to our previous project. I also like how they're bringing back Drago, the guy who killed Apollo Creed.
this is a trailer for a netflix original series called disenchanted  I think the animation is really interesting to look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp_RnJcb8Ig

Children Of Men

I recently watched the film Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuaron. The cinematography, done by Emmanuel Lubezki, was the most resonating part of the film. This man also did the cinematography for Oscar winning films such as Birdman and The Revenant. The scene in this clip follows the main character as he pushes his way through battle in a long, continuous shot. Notice how the hand-held camera work creates a sense of panic  and puts the viewer in the battle.   Children of Men 2006 Long Take from MyFavouriteFilms on Vimeo .

Spider Man

I went to Washington DC over the weekend and saw that the Spider man movie involved the Washington Monument  and I thought that it is cool how they make it look like he is actually climbing it!

RDR1 VS RDR2

Read Dead Redemption 2 just came out recently. The first read dead came out in 2010. It shows a large advancement in graphical and animation technology in the last 8 years. The game looks a lot better than the old one.

Aquman Trailer

Aquaman shows us what Atlantis would look like if the sea was alive. I love how they made the sea world seem high tech compared to our world.
I really like this fish. I like how it looks human and pulls a bag. So it is no longer fish but Fuman

The Grinch

The Grinch is a new animated movie that is coming out soon. I cannot wait to do animation because this seems like a lot of fun to do! The textures on the characters is a lot better compared to the last animated Grinch.

Bright

Love the colors the black background makes the picture pop out more. It seems like the bright colors are jumping out at you. The color match peferectly.
This is a oil painting of a famous artist using line stroke techniques to fully shade in his different parts. It looks really cool and i love the line strokes used in the whole entire painting.

Christmas Light Photography

The holidays are right around the corner, and I have recently been seeing advertisements for Christmas light shows.  One type of photography that I love seeing during the holidays, is Christmas Light Photography. Using things like string lights and candles, you can make beautiful compositions. Most Christmas Light photographers usually use a technique called "bokeh" which is basically when a camera lens renders "out of focus" points of light.

The Other Side of the Wind

Orson Welles, the director of Citizen Kane , died on October 10, 1985. On November 2, 2018, his final film was released. The Other Side of the Wind has been in the making since the 70's, but it was never finished because Welles died before he could complete the film. Netflix has released the movie and an accompanying documentary about the making of the film.

Add Fuel Street Art

Add Fuel is the name of the street art by artist Diogo Machado. His work is very interesting and it reminds me of mosaic tile. I think art like this can make old buildings and cities look cool and unique. Diogo is Portuguese and I think you can really see some of that culture in his works.
