Here's a pretty cool short film made using flash, just like what we're doing in class now.

This is an extremely tiny sculpture the size of a single grain of sand. These are made at Vienna University of Technology (link to their website).

Speaking of children's drawings becoming monsters, this has some potential. Some redditor found it under his 9 year old's bed. Could also be a neat flash guy. Or something

The winner of Movie Extra Tropfest 2011 was  Animal Beatbox , directed by Damon Gameau. An incredibly popular choice on the night, the film has gone on to screen at numerous international festivals, including Palm Springs International ShortFest, and Aspen Shortsfest, where it won the ‘Special Jury Recognition’ prize in 2011. The Tropfest mission is to continue to develop the most exciting forum in the world for audiences to come together and celebrate premium short films; and to continue to offer filmmakers a bigger and better platform from which to launch their professional careers.  Tropfest films are unique in that they have all been made specifically for Tropfest, will premiere at Tropfest and include the Tropfest Signature Item (or TSI), which changes each year.  This year the TSI for New York is a bagel.

SHOHEI is an illustrator based in Tokyo. He mainly works with ballpoint pens and marker pens on illustration boards and often depics Japanese culture from his unique perspective.   This is some really cool art that has got to take a lot of skill.  (Posted for Kevin B.)

Gears of Decay- Dan Walton   Top 300 Winner  Congratulations to Dan Walton and Matt Liebowitz.  They each had a photograph selected as one of the Top 300 works of art in the State of  Ohio in the  Governor's Youth Art Exhibition .   From the 12,000 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 chosen to receive the Governor's Award of Excellence. Tel-Aviv Living- Matt Liebowitz   Top 300 Winner 

Ethiopian Boys- by Matt Liebowitz Congratulations to Matt Liebowitz whose  photography  was selected out of over17,700 entries as a Finalist in Photographer’s Forum 32 nd Annual College & High School Photography Contest Sponsored by Nikon.  You can see Matt's work as well as other winners here .

Triggertrap is an open-source, Arduino-based universal camera trigger.   It triggers (nearly) any digital stills camera using (almost) any source:    Laser     Sound     Time-lapse    Anything else, via the   built-in AUX port.  The   Sound sensor on Triggertrap v1 was used to trigger based on the popping sound of a water balloon with a tiny bit of air in the top (so it would make a popping sound, obviously).  For $125, I might want this.

For Improv Everywhere 's latest mission, a presenter at the  TED  conference has his talk interrupted by the Mac spinning wait cursor, commonly known as the “Spinning Beach Ball of Death.” As he stands awkwardly and waits, things get weird.

I find this worth the time the post because it shows how detailed photo shops paint tool can get, and that MORE layers equal more detail because you can go back to every brush you have made and adjust it to what you last worked on. (Paul Rooney)

31-year-old  Seth Casteel is a pet photographer who has snapped  surreal photos of more than 60 dogs swimming underwater  and diving into pools to chase after a coveted tennis ball or squeaky toy.    Casteel’s  underwater dog photos  were posted on the social news site  Reddit.com  and they became an instant viral hit.  You can check out more of his work here .
