The Cinematography of Mommy (2014)

This week I watched one of my new favorite movies. It is called Mommy. The story is about a child with ADHD, his mother's struggle to cope and a helpful neighbor. It is one of the most visually interesting films I have ever seen. This is partly due to the fact that the aspect ratio is 1:1, meaning the screen is confined to a square. The director, Xavier Dolan, did not just make this choice to stand out, instead, it helps advance the claustrophobic feeling as well as give you insight into the characters' state of mind.

  1. I really like the blurry effect. Acting as this was not clear to him. I also like the color correction.

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love.
