If Beale Street Could Talk, directed and written by Barry Jenkins, is a love story set in 1970's Harlem. After seeing this movie, it immediately became one of my favorites of the year. The cinematography, done by James Laxton, is absolutely stunning and enticing, and their use of color really reflects the emotions that the characters are going through. The score is also one of the best I have heard all year as well. But the visuals do not carry the movie, the acting is just as phenomenal. I hope this movie gets a few Oscar wins, as Barry Jenkins proves to us once again that he knows how to make a beautiful movie.
This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. This movie looks incredible, and I'm sad I didn't get the chance to see it in theaters yet, but hopefully I'll be able to watch it soon!!
ReplyDeleteThis movie is gorgeous. The close up shots are definitely Barry Jenkins specialty.
