The Work of AJ Frena

                                            AJ Frena

AJ Frena is a graphic design illustrator from Texas who studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York city. Frena's artwork has been exhibited in galleries all over the world including the Margulies Collection and the Onassis Cultural Centre. His pieces take a twist on ancient myths and fairytales. But, his pieces also hold very important links to the issues popular in the media today. Frena's palette is very neutral yet vibrant. His illustrations create a very sensual link between the imagination and the control of technology. His clients vary from locals to big time industries such as Nike, ImagineFX, Disney, Lost at E Minor, Empty Kingdom, and Illustration Friday. AJ now lives and continues his creative career in Pittsburgh, PA with his lucky black cat and older dog Collie.

  1. One thing I really liked was the image inside of an image. The outline provides one story and then the picture provides another story.

  2. I really like the first image. It takes an abstract, darker look on a classic visual. It also incorporates realism in the characters; for example, they chose to incorporate an actual lion instead of the human with lion features from the film.

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Speed Painting

This a painting made in Photoshop by a guy who goes by the name " The Concept Painter " on Youtube. He does lots of Photoshop speed painting videos and also air brush videos. This particular painting took him 3.5 hours to complete and was made using a drawing tablet similar to the ones we use in our class.

Another Comic Book Artist (Woo!): Annie Wu

If you have talked to me for more than one minute, I am a huge nerd. So, I am making another post about comic book artists. This time it's Annie Wu. She's a comic book artists who lives in Chicago, and is one of my inspiration artists for my sustained investigation. A lot of her work is dramatic with deep and dark lines with bold colors which is makes style perfect for where I first found her work. I first saw her work in the Black Canary book in 2017. Eventually, I will talk about Marvel comic book artists, but not today. If you want to check out more of her work, here is her website:  https://www.anniewuart.com/
