Using Art to Rebuild Coral Reefs

The BVI Art Reef is a project that aims to use statues as a base to grow transplanted coral and regrow coral reefs. This statue is an 80-ft kraken attached to a WW2 ship. In 2017, the statue was sunk into the Caribbean sea and has since been used by scientists and students to study marine life.

  1. I really like the concept of using sculptures in reefs to not only grow transplanted coral but to bring attention to rebuilding the coral reefs.

  2. I think its really great that they are rebuilding the reefs! I find it very interesting that they found a way to incorporate the statue into their restoration efforts! Very outside of the box idea!

  3. This is a really cool idea to help coral reefs but to also to incorporate art. I can't wait to see the regrowth of the coral reefs with this new concept.

  4. It's super important to take of the Earth. So, incorporating art into might bring more action and attention to these issues. Plus it just looks cool! :)

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Speed Painting

This a painting made in Photoshop by a guy who goes by the name " The Concept Painter " on Youtube. He does lots of Photoshop speed painting videos and also air brush videos. This particular painting took him 3.5 hours to complete and was made using a drawing tablet similar to the ones we use in our class.

Another Comic Book Artist (Woo!): Annie Wu

If you have talked to me for more than one minute, I am a huge nerd. So, I am making another post about comic book artists. This time it's Annie Wu. She's a comic book artists who lives in Chicago, and is one of my inspiration artists for my sustained investigation. A lot of her work is dramatic with deep and dark lines with bold colors which is makes style perfect for where I first found her work. I first saw her work in the Black Canary book in 2017. Eventually, I will talk about Marvel comic book artists, but not today. If you want to check out more of her work, here is her website:  https://www.anniewuart.com/
