The BVI Art Reef is a project that aims to use statues as a base to grow transplanted coral and regrow coral reefs. This statue is an 80-ft kraken attached to a WW2 ship. In 2017, the statue was sunk into the Caribbean sea and has since been used by scientists and students to study marine life.
This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. I really like the concept of using sculptures in reefs to not only grow transplanted coral but to bring attention to rebuilding the coral reefs.
ReplyDeleteI think its really great that they are rebuilding the reefs! I find it very interesting that they found a way to incorporate the statue into their restoration efforts! Very outside of the box idea!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool idea to help coral reefs but to also to incorporate art. I can't wait to see the regrowth of the coral reefs with this new concept.
ReplyDeleteIt's super important to take of the Earth. So, incorporating art into might bring more action and attention to these issues. Plus it just looks cool! :)
