Synesthesia

Synesthesia is a perceptual condition that mixes senses.

Because of this, people can see, smell, even taste music as they listen to it. (It can cause a lot of other things too but this is just what I focused on).

I actually learned about it in psychology a little bit but I found some paintings on Twitter that people did showing how they perceive different songs! I thought it was so interesting and it's crazy to me how even though the artwork is so abstract, I can always see the relation to the song! Music is so important to my life, as I'm sure it is for you guys as well and I would encourage looking into this! It's pretty cool to see some of your favorite songs brought to life in these paintings! Here's just a couple of examples that I found on a website!

  1. Wow. I think I've heard of this before but I've never actually seen it in a visual form before that's so cool that some people can sense these things (I wonder what songs taste really bad, lol) I'm hoping to take psych next year too I hope it's fun.

  2. I love this because music is definitely an inspiration for me, but I didn't know there was an actual term for seeing things in music. I love how colorful and abstract these are! The paintings are very expressive of each song.

  3. This is seriously so cool, I love that the colors go with the music and the vibe of the artist and song. Its so interesting to think about music in this new way.

  4. I really love all of these because I feel as if all of these tie the songs and artists together and create a certain theme for the song!

  5. This is awesome! I've heard that one of my favorite singers, Marina Diamandis, actually has synesthesia! Apparently she associates colors with all of her music. Fascinating concept and beautiful art!!

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Speed Painting

This a painting made in Photoshop by a guy who goes by the name " The Concept Painter " on Youtube. He does lots of Photoshop speed painting videos and also air brush videos. This particular painting took him 3.5 hours to complete and was made using a drawing tablet similar to the ones we use in our class.

Another Comic Book Artist (Woo!): Annie Wu

If you have talked to me for more than one minute, I am a huge nerd. So, I am making another post about comic book artists. This time it's Annie Wu. She's a comic book artists who lives in Chicago, and is one of my inspiration artists for my sustained investigation. A lot of her work is dramatic with deep and dark lines with bold colors which is makes style perfect for where I first found her work. I first saw her work in the Black Canary book in 2017. Eventually, I will talk about Marvel comic book artists, but not today. If you want to check out more of her work, here is her website:  https://www.anniewuart.com/
