One of the many photographers whose work I follow has done a project he dubbed the "Photo Ark". His name is Joel Sartore, and he's a photographer for National Geographic. The Photo Ark is a comprehensive photo database of the world's species - but photographed in an unconventional way. Joel sets up either white or black backgrounds to pose the animals on, thus forcing the audience to focus on only the animal, not their environment where they live. He believes that by looking into the faces of these endangered or threatened species, people will start to care more. If people look at these photos and they evoke emotions in them, they're more likely to care about the saving and conservation of these species. His unique presentation of these species is something that really stands out to me. I've attached a few of my favorite photos of his, but if you want to look into more, just search the term "photo ark"!
This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. I really like how the animals are being shown like this because I feel like it gives greater focus to the animals. I also really like the angles because its unconventional in animal photographs.
ReplyDeleteI like the compositions of the pictures. The photographer is very talented to be able to take pictures of animals with good compositions cause they don't usually stay still.
