Inspiration Through Music

Inspiration Through Music

Written By Alex Muccino

About three years ago my friends and I started a cover band called Saving Escape, we started by practicing in a small basement with nothing but an electronic drum kit and a couple of acoustic guitars. We took every gig opportunity we could get, anywhere from playing our friend's backyard house parties, to being the background music for small events in our hometown. We spent the first year trying to find our sound, what we wanted to be. We started off playing really... really bad green day covers, and really anything to hit the top 100's on Kiss 107.
As the years went on and our experience of playing new venues expanded we found the artists that gave us our inspiration, Jimi Hendrix, The Black Keys, The Beatles, etc... these artists don't even start to scratch the surface of the broad range of musicians that keep us inspired every day.
Now I am proud to say that Saving Escape has played my dream venue (Bogart's) three times now and we are currently in Sonic Lounge Studios in Columbus recording on our first studio E.P. Now a days there is little to nothing that inspires me as much as playing music every day, and somehow every sort of art or visual design ties back to being in a band.

Here's a video of us playing a cover of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes in 2016:

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Speed Painting

This a painting made in Photoshop by a guy who goes by the name " The Concept Painter " on Youtube. He does lots of Photoshop speed painting videos and also air brush videos. This particular painting took him 3.5 hours to complete and was made using a drawing tablet similar to the ones we use in our class.

Another Comic Book Artist (Woo!): Annie Wu

If you have talked to me for more than one minute, I am a huge nerd. So, I am making another post about comic book artists. This time it's Annie Wu. She's a comic book artists who lives in Chicago, and is one of my inspiration artists for my sustained investigation. A lot of her work is dramatic with deep and dark lines with bold colors which is makes style perfect for where I first found her work. I first saw her work in the Black Canary book in 2017. Eventually, I will talk about Marvel comic book artists, but not today. If you want to check out more of her work, here is her website:  https://www.anniewuart.com/
