World of Tomorrow is a 17-minute animated short film from 2015 by Don Hertzfeldt. Without giving too much away the film follows a four-year-old named Emily meeting her future self. Hertzfeldt uses traditional stick figures as the characters interwoven with a very sophisticated plot to create one of the best films in recent memory. I love this short because of the grand sci-fi elements that are able to be mixed with the idea of Herfezfeldt recording his four-year-old niece. World of Tomorrow received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film and was ranked at #10 on Rolling Stone's Greatest Animated Movies Ever list. The short can be watched on Netflix and a sequel was just released on Vimeo.
This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. That i a really creative film. And it was well thought out. The simplicity gives it a charm that ties it all together. I am really convinced to watch this film.
