"Dear Basketball" Kobe Bryant 1978-2020

Whether you follow basketball or not you’ve probably heard the name Kobe Bryant. On January 26th, 2020 Kobe passed in a helicopter crash along with his 13 year old daughter Gianna and 7 other victims. This tragedy has shaken the world. Kobe was a hero to so many people and players around the world. There are many tributes dedicated to Kobe and his daughter whether that be in street art, art shown through the media, articles, and even short films. Like the one that one an Oscar in 2018 called “Dear Basketball.” This film was originally created when Kobe decided to retire from the game he loved so much. It has since resurfaced as many of the words and graphics relate to his passing and pull the heartstrings even more than it may have in the past context. The animation is so well done and truly illustrates Kobe’s life up until his retirement. Kobe will be missed along with the other 8 beautiful lives lost in such a sudden tragedy. Go give someone you love a hug. You truly never know what could happen.

  1. I've seen this short film a few times, each time I was amazed by the writing and animation style.

Last Blog Post

This is my last blog post for my senior year, so I'd like to say that I am so glad I took DMA classes throughout high school. I've learned so much and I wouldn't be where I am today without my experiences in the classes. I will be attending the Savannah College of Art and Design this coming fall and I couldn't be more excited. I'm thinking about majoring and working in the film industry, however, I will be pursuing all and any forms of art in the future as well. From a fellow artist: take the opportunities that you are given and work hard doing what you love. Speed Painting

This a painting made in Photoshop by a guy who goes by the name " The Concept Painter " on Youtube. He does lots of Photoshop speed painting videos and also air brush videos. This particular painting took him 3.5 hours to complete and was made using a drawing tablet similar to the ones we use in our class.

Another Comic Book Artist (Woo!): Annie Wu

If you have talked to me for more than one minute, I am a huge nerd. So, I am making another post about comic book artists. This time it's Annie Wu. She's a comic book artists who lives in Chicago, and is one of my inspiration artists for my sustained investigation. A lot of her work is dramatic with deep and dark lines with bold colors which is makes style perfect for where I first found her work. I first saw her work in the Black Canary book in 2017. Eventually, I will talk about Marvel comic book artists, but not today. If you want to check out more of her work, here is her website:  https://www.anniewuart.com/
